Varley

The trio Varley has existed in its current constellation since 2017. Before that, Claire-Ann and Mattias made electronic music together, but quickly felt the need "to make it feel real, with real musicians". And so they brought their old colleague Joschka on board.

Influenced by Bon Iver, Fleetwood Mac, The Cardigans or Phoebe Bridgers, the core of Varley's music lies in the willingness to be vulnerable. The three of them play various instruments and the key is to find an underlining framework. Matthias says: "We play every instrument a little bit, and we change them between the tracks. In the end, it's like we're trying to find the perfect environment for the core of the songs, Claire-Ann's vocals."

When you break out the acoustic guitar, the words are the focal point unless you're the Jimi Hendrix of the acoustic guitar. So the words have to have meaning.
